Branch Library

Our Family History Library is located in the Old Police Residence at 117 Gilbert St., Latrobe This historic building is accessed from Gilbert St by a driveway running beside the Online Access Centre. Free car parking is available and a picturesque park is situated at the back of our library, an ideal place to relax and enjoy lunch.

Local History Project
A project to provide information on the early pioneers of the area has commenced with the acquiring of "Latrobe Early History - Pioneer Families" and Latrobe Early History - Land Valuations, P.O. Directories and more. The co-ordinator of this interesting project is Rosie Marshall. Rosie would welcome any information members would like to provide to share with others.

The Branch has in its collection, two rolls of microfilm containing baptisms and marriages for Port Sorell/Latrobe and Scottsdale/Ringarooma area. Church of England marriages for Latrobe/Port Sorell cover 1850-1859 & 1876-1895.

To assist with searching, some library staff are indexing the films, so be sure to look at these next time you are in the library. If you would like further information please send an email or phone the library during the opening hours which are listed above.

North-West Post rolls of microfilm are now in our Library.

Library Services

Visitors are most welcome for a daily fee of $5.00. There is an additional small charge for both members and visitors for the use of the microform and computer records. Photocopying facilities are available.

Resources

The library holds an extensive collection of books, cemetery transcriptions, microform and computer based resources covering all Australian states. There are also overseas records on hand.
A recent collection of newspapers includes the Advocate (1984-1997) and Examiners (1957-1972).
The library is staffed by willing and friendly volunteers who will be pleased to help visitors and members further their family and local history research.
The Mersey Branch has an ongoing committment to collecting local material and indexing records in our collection, the most recent ones being local church records on microfilm and local newspapers.

Books

We hold an extensive collection of books including cemetery transcriptions and local family histories for the Mersey-Leven region (Devonport, Latrobe & Ulverstone).

Members may borrow from a special lending collection which contains both books and journals. Come in to the library and check these out now!
