These publications begin in 1986 and contain indexes of the Advocate Newspaper's personal announcements, (births, deaths and marriages). Over the years the indexing has expanded to include engagements, anniversaries and for a time, in memoriams.
Up until 1997 each volume contains five years records of events, however after that date they are published as annual volumes. As much information as space allows is given in each record to ensure maximum identification, but in many cases there is further information to be found in the original announcement. The original entries are available for viewing and photocopying in the Branch Library at Latrobe.

First published in 1887 in Devonport (then called Formby), the North-West Post concentrated its news gathering around the areas from Penguin to Devonport and inland township such as Sheffield, Gawler, Sprent, Sassafras & Latrobe. It consists mostly of local news and focuses on "people" and local advertising.
Included in these publications is information taken from paid notices of births, deaths and marriages, obituaries, descriptions of weddings, removals from the district and descriptive articles by news reporters visiting country districts. The index provides sufficient information to identify an individual but as with all indexes, the original entry should then be viewed.

Bluff Cemetery

ALLEN, William
The funeral of the late Mr William Allen took place at the Bluff cemetery yesterday afternoon, and was largely attended. The deceased was the chief of the Good Templars' Lodge, the members of which headed the funeral cortege. The burial service was conducted by the Rev. F.J. Miles.

MEADE, Mrs
Mrs Meade, mother of Mrs J. Reynolds, of the Formby Hotel, expired at West Devonport on Thursday. Deceased, who was about 90 years of age, had been in failing health for some time, but up to the last her intellect was wonderfully clear, and she was able to read and write without the aid of glasses.
The remains were interred at the Bluff Cemetery yesterday.

* NEILSEN, Rose Hannah
Died: 18th September 1945. Age:89 years.
Death Certificate No. 1915/0141.
Nielsen. At Devonport, on September 18, 1945, Rose Hannah, relict of the late Hans Nielsen, loved and loving mother of Norman (Sydney), Lav. (Hobart), and Selwyn (Beaconsfield); in the 90th year of her age. At Rest.

The funeral of the late Rose Hannah Nielsen is appointed to leave the Methodist Church, Devonport, this day (Wednesday), at 2 p.m. for interment in the Bluff cemetery. Friends are respectfully invited to attend. Kneebone and Son, Funeral Directors, 41 Steel st., Devonport, 'phone 207.

* NOTHROP, John Turner
Buried: 16 May 1929.
The funeral of the late John Turner Nothrop will leave the Devon Public Hospital, Latrobe, Today (Thursday), at 1.45 p.m., arriving at the Victoria Bridge, Devonport, at 2.30 p.m., and thence to the Bluff cemetery for interment. Friends are respectfully invited to attend. G. Scott, undertaker.

SMITH, Robert Boag
The painful circumstances surrounding the death of a man named Smith, who committed suicide in a small two-roomed house on the Esplanade, West Devonport, some two years ago, will no doubt be fresh in the minds of many of our readers. The remains of the deceased were buried in the Bluff Cemetery, but on Thursday they were disinterred, and placed in a leaden coffin and removed by yesterday morning's train to Launceston, for re-interment.

* STEPHENS, Thomas
The funeral of the late Mr Thomas Stephens will leave his late residence, Oldaker street, for the Bluff Cemetery, at 3 o'clock to-day. H. Weller, Undertaker. North West Post 24 August 1897
A young man named Thomas Stephens, who was well-known on the Coast, died at Devonport on Sunday morning. Deceased, who for some months past had been in charge of a goods delivery cart, was at his work about ten days ago, but, feeling ill, took to his bed. A medical man was summoned, but the patient, who was suffering from a severe attack of pleurisy and inflammation of the lungs, was past human aid, and rapidly sank. Deceased leaves a wife and child to mourn their loss. The funeral will leave the late residence of the deceased at 3 o'clock to-day.

On March 29, Louisa Caroline, beloved wife of Bartholomew William Thomas, Esq, of "Appledore," Mersey; in her 71st year.
